The large-scale, multi-faceted program, which includes the design and construction of new train stations, and the renovation of rail yards and infrastructure, is expected to span a five-year period and involve numerous funding sources as well as hundreds of sub-contractors and suppliers.

Noel McFarlane, URS deputy program manager for project control, said his firm spent months evaluating off-the-shelf cost management systems that could be easily integrated into the CTA capital improvement program. "We were interested specifically in a cost-system that could be accessed via the Web, enabling us to synchronize data on all project costs and produce status reports," he said.
